terrariums!

For the past month or two I’ve been hunting all over new york city for the right glass cookie jars to make studio terrariums. I couldn’t find the right type, but finally stopped by West Elm in dumbo the other day and scored these two great glass containers. Not cookie jars, but very inexpensive ($8 and $10) and just the size for my shelf.

And to match the festive mood of spring, I was really excited this week to print a wedding invitation for a couple getting married at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Texas. This is a place I have been wanting to visit for a long time, it sounds so beautiful…

easter mini-break

Just a slight diversion in my spring printing season… I took a little vacation to visit a dear friend for the Easter holiday. What a great trip, I am feeling SO rested and recharged. The weather has been perfect in Los Angeles, just what I needed after these long winter months.

Now I’m homeward-bound, ready to start working on items for the Brooklyn Flea, which starts April 6th. I’m thinking about selling cards and notebooks, but we’ll see how that shapes up. I’ll post some photos as I make stuff, I can’t wait until it begins!

business card business

This weekend was all about business cards! I had to print some new cards of my own and did a reprint batch for one of my regulars - The Bubble Lounge, who needed cards for both of their New York and San Francisco locations.

And speaking of business cards, I also have some exciting news about an upcoming joint-venture with my studiomate Breck (of Sesame Letterpress). I’ll save the details until we launch it…sometime in early April.

green dreams

It must be that time of year… I’ve been printing green almost all week. Here are two wedding invitation sets I finished yesterday, a mixture of chartreuse, forrest green on cream and green papers. The recognizable berry design is one of mine, the beautiful hydrangea set is the work of the bride herself, designer Anne McAndrew.

orchid trend

I’m getting more and more requests lately for orchid invitations. Timing couldn’t be better because I’m starting to crave the warmer, brighter weather of spring - and staring at tropical flowers always helps.

Today is very nice though. The sun is popping in and out and the breeze down here by the water is heavenly.

march cards!

Its time for the third installment of cards illustrated by guest artist Jessi Klein. I love this drawing - perfect for early spring, and printed in dark green. Now available in the moontree etsy store!

sophie

This week I had the chance to work (for the second time) with the very talented Katherine Yaphe of Oliver Yaphe, an amazing home textiles company. Katherine designed these great notecards in honor of her new addition, Sophie.

I thought this was a great opportunity to talk about registration. Since each color of ink requires a separate run through the press, layered or closely placed objects need precise registration in order to achieve the desired look. This one was a heart-stopper…but I’m always glad for the opportunity to reach a little further in my craft.

Here are some shots before and after grey and some ink about to become green. Thanks for the great design work Katherine!

photography class

Just before New Year I took the plunge and bought myself a digital SLR camera in hopes of taking better photography for my portfolio - and just in life.  So today I took my first “Digital SLR Cameras” class with Cooper Union’s Continuing Studies program- and it was really fantastic. Richard Press teaches the course and I highly recommend it to anyone curious about cameras or photography.

I also just really love being in and around the buildings of Cooper, surrounded by history and genius. Hopefully my photos will get a little better…with time and practice.

clovers

I printed two sets of invitations this week with similar clover styles. The sage clovers were printed on offwhite stock, and the blue on a slightly less creamy pearl white stock. I sent off plates for 3 weddings yesterday so the next 2 weeks will be busy. Hope you’ll check back!

hooray for uno

I haven’t been posting much lately because I’ve been working on a lot of wedding invitation design work this month. (And I don’t think pictures of me sitting at my computer in different outfits would be very interesting.) I did print two weddings this week which I’ll post next, but had to share a nice moment of new york city inspiration.

Last week I took my annual trip to Madison Square Garden’s Westminster Kennel Show with photoblogging extraordinaire Kathleen Connally. We were strolling around backstage when someone handed me this handsome little guy. Not typical Dog Show etiquette, and Kathleen managed to catch my sheer delight on camera. You can view more of her great dog show shots here.

My printing schedule will be pretty busy for the next month, so I’ll try to post lots of pictures.
