I printed some October wedding invitations this week and it made me long for autumn!  I’m dreaming of wearing jeans, walking on crunchy leaves and putting turtlenecks on my dog.  I love this warm orange ink color – I mixed it using yellow, rubine red and a tiny bit of 477U brown.

This week’s contest was a little DEEP!  Thanks everyone who entered, I think my favorite was:

Flipped upside down but finally settled. by perideaudesigns

I like the sentiment!  Next week I’m taking a quick vacation, but I’ll return the following week with another contest – hope you’ll drop by and enter!  :)

Is it me or has this been the weirdest summer ever?  I feel like it went both very fast and very slow.  On the slow front has been the completion of my new website, which I’m even getting sick of hearing myself talk about.  :)  I promise it’ll be up soon!  In the meantime let’s dedicate today’s contest to the theme of change.  It’s a broad topic, sometimes it’s good and sometimes bad – but a rather universal human experience nonetheless.

So describe a change you went through, in exactly six words.  Contest ends tomorrow at 10am (ET), best entry wins a nice little stack of thank you notes from my new collection (debuting soon in my etsy shop)!  Good luck, get crackin’!

Because I look at misprints and scrap paper all day sometimes I forget how cool they can be.  Then someone will come by the studio and pick a piece of scrap paper out of the trash and say “Can I have this?”.  I remember doing this myself the whole first year I was learning how to print at the Center for Book Arts in Manhattan.

This was a piece of piece of scrap stock I was using to set up some text for a wedding invitation.  When I pulled the second proof I noticed at how much this looks like one of the Rorschach inkblot tests.  What do you see, leave a comment below.  :)

This was an extended contest, let’s chalk it up to the heat wave in new york right now.  Again it was close but this weeks winner is syd:

The fear that one experiences, that may very likely keep them plastered to their seat despite needing to get up for a number of reasons, when having to walk in front of a group people knowing they will have full view of your backside. This could be referred to as a phobia.

Feel free to name this phenomenon below in comments.  I’ll send a surprise in the mail to the best one.  :)

Today’s contest is inspired by my friend Mark who thinks we need a few new words in the English language.  We’re going to do it in two parts, today’s entries will only be definitions that don’t have words yet.  I’ll choose one and next week we’ll invent a new word for it.  Today’s winner gets one of my last remaining nyc tree maps, part of a limited edition series.  I’m going to start the contest off with an entry below, hope you join the fun today!

matchbox favors

How many of you have seen 500 Days of Summer?  I saw it the other night and liked it a lot- but one scene that grabbed me was when Tom went to the party and the screen split into ‘expection’ and ‘reality’.  I was really fascinated by this, I think I could watch an entire movie in this format.  It made me think about how much I tend to live in the world of my expectations, whether I’m planning a project or daydreaming about what next week is going to be like.  It was a real gem of an idea nestled into an otherwise hipster romantic comedy.  But there were some great scenes.  Any thoughts?

Anyway, enough of the moontree letterpress movie reviews.  These are some darling matchboxes I’m finishing up this week.  I think they make a really sweet wedding favor.
