I hope everyone had a great 4th! Personally I spent the entire day watching the Cake Boss marathon, but that’s neither here nor there. The rest of this past weekend was dedicated to getting my chicken coop finally up and running!
Now, I will freely admit that since leaving new york city I have become a serious Green Acres cliche. After my tenth year of living in the city, I found myself sitting on subway platforms dreaming of barns, country roads and farm animals. So since moving out to rural Bucks County PA in early 2010, I’ve been allowing myself every country indulgence that time and budget permit. This week I’m fulfilling a dream I’ve had for 10 years – my own backyard chicken coop.
On Friday my wonderful neighbor Joe came over to start building the coop. Instead of building a new structure we decided to simply convert the back 1/3 of my garden shed into the coop, and build an outdoor scratching area for the chickens. I’m picking up my chickens on Friday, and I’m deliriously excited. I will post some photos when they arrive. Until then if you’d like to see more of Joe’s work, you can find photos here. Now its back to letterpress printing!
