holiday notecards

I’m still semi-concious from a whirlwind of Christmas fun, but wanted to post a quick shot of some notecards I printed last week.  The stock is a deckled edge Fabriano.  Deckled edges are sometimes tricky to register, since each sheet is a slightly different shape, but I find this Fabriano pretty easy to work with.  Hope everyone is having a great break!

Yesterday I shipped off my final job of 2008, this New Year’s greeting for Brooklyn’s own Reich Paper, commemorating their 50th year in business.  I printed it on Reich’s SHINE paper (Cosmo).  This month I tested some new letterpress stock that they will be carrying in the coming months.  It is gorgeous, I can’t wait until it is available…  I’ll be back after Christmas…merry merry until then.  :)

winter friday

I’m getting snowed in today, but am having a lovely day printing my last big job of the year.  I just popped out to get some soup and take a few quick shots of the river while the snow is coming down.  Sunday is my last sale of the season (the Brooklyn flea Gifted market), so please stop by – I think it’ll be a good one! And I wanted to take another opportunity to show off my Christmas cactus, which is blooming for the first time this year.  :)

Episode two the Design by the Book video series is out now! This co-production of Design*Sponge and the New York Public Library will be continuing after the holidays with a few more episodes. I hope you’ll tune in to see what projects the artists are working on, including my own set of prints inspired by the NYPL’s stunning map room. And for more library treasures, check out the awesome blog of NYPL librarian Jessica Pigza.   LOVE her.  :)

holiday snow

There needs to be a new word in the English language to describe that feeling of dread – knowing you’re falling behind on your blog.  Everyone I know who has one agrees, blogging seems to be first thing that gets pushed aside when times get too busy.  I’m going to make another resolution for 2009 to get better at photography and blogging.  Here are some snowy custom cards I delivered this week…

my weekend treasures

Like most people, I’ve been trying to be careful with my spending this Christmas.  I’m not so much cutting out gifts as being more conscious of where I’m spending my money.  So this weekend I was excited to make some special purchases from vendors I LOVE.  Here’s my loot:

Beautiful locket earrings from Bonbon Oiseau.

Really cool business card holder and wooden tree ornaments from cool RISD gal Nan Kim, Nan Kim Designs Ltd.

The most beautiful poppy sachet filled with lavendar by Jewelweeds.  I could have spent my entire budget at her table, simply gorgeous.

These sweet little hair pins by another favorite, Laura Normandin / Wren Handmade.

A very lovely bag by Lotta Jansdotter (on the right).

The new Wild Unknown calendar.  I bought Kim’s rabbits and hawks calendar last year, and now I have her new 2009 feathers calendar.

Thanks so much to everyone who visited the Gifted market yesterday!  What an amazing crowd.  After all the dire economic forecasts lately it was so nice to see people out supporting artists and designers in their own community.  I can’t say thank you enough!

These custom cards I printed on Thursday and Friday made my desk look like it was sitting under a Christmas tree – and staring at all these pine needles for so long really got me into the holiday spirit.  Hope you’re feeling it too.  :)

I love the simplicity of this custom card I made for a client last week.  New year is always a good time to start over, to try to do things a little better and enjoy life a little more.  Even in the midst of all the uncertainly recently I find I am filled with hope for a new start in January.  :)
